Sugar and Spice is a gorgeous, simple, 3-fabric baby quilt. It comes together quickly and is a great weekend project. It finishes at 32” by 40”, which means you will only need an extra 1m or 1yd of fabric for the backing. So, the whole quilt can be made with roughly 3m of fabric in total. To make this baby quilt extra special, I decided to work with my favourite fabrics for this project – Indian cottons!

One of my favourite sewing techniques when creating a quilt block is the stitch and flip method (also known as snowballing corners). But one aspect of this technique I find frustrating is the fabric wastage. Then I started making bonus blocks whenever I used the stitch and flip method and never looked back - both half square triangles or half rectangle triangles.

Universally, handmade baby quilts are probably the most special type of quilt there is (at least in my opinion!) They're often made with so much love, especially if it is for someone you know (which it usually is).
